Application Process
Applications for PGY-1 positions will be accepted via the Electronic Residency Application Service (ERAS). JFK University Medical Center participates in the National Resident Matching Program (NRMP).
The deadline for applications to the General Surgery Residency Program 2026-2027 academic year is November 15, 2025. Prospective residents are encouraged to apply as early as possible. Interviews will occur between November and January.
We are only able to support J-1 Visas.
Application Requirements
Applications must be submitted via ERAS – no paper applications will be accepted for PGY-1 positions. Applications will be reviewed with preference given to applicants who meet the following criteria:
- Completed an approved educational program at an accredited school of medicine within the past 3 years.
- Passed USMLE Steps 1 & 2 (or COMLEX 1 & 2) on the first attempt by the NRMP deadline for rank order lists (mid-February).
- International applicants must be Educational Commission for Foreign Medical Graduates (ECFMG) certified. Clinical experience in the US is strongly preferred.
- Meet all requirements for a New Jersey residency training permit. College transcripts are required to document completion of New Jersey premedical requirements. College transcripts should be sent directly from the college or university.
