When to Seek Cardiac Rehabilitation

Patients should always consult their physician about a cardiac rehabilitation program. The physician can assess the patient's individual needs and recommend the most appropriate course of action. Early referral to cardiac rehab is often beneficial, so patients shouldn't hesitate to discuss it with their doctor.

We care for patients recovering from these cardiac conditions or heart procedures:

Our Cardiac Rehabilitation Services

Hackensack Meridian Health offers hospital-based and outpatient cardiac rehabilitation. Services include:
  • Cardiac health education: Our specialists help patients understand their condition and take steps to manage risk factors.
  • Monitored exercise sessions: Patients participate in medically prescribed, supervised cardiac exercise to improve strength, stamina and confidence. During exercise, your heart rate, heart rhythm and blood pressure are monitored.
  • Nutritional counseling: Our team provides information on healthy eating tailored to each patient’s lifestyle, cultural needs and preferences.
  • Smoking cessation: Smoking is a leading risk factor for heart disease, so we provide smoking cessation counseling to help patients quit.

As you complete your cardiac rehabilitation program, the goal is to continue exercising, remain physically active, and maintain heart healthy lifestyle changes. Whether you join a fitness center, exercise at home or just want to remain active daily, our specialists will help you develop your post-cardiac rehabilitation exercise plan.
